Preston Barracks in Brighton is being completely transformed. It is one of three sites being regenerated in a partnership between U+I Group Plc, the University of Brighton, and Brighton & Hove City Council. The ambition of the regeneration masterplan is to create a thriving addition to the Lewes Road which will contribute to employment, enterprise, and entrepreneurialism; a place that people will want to be a part of and proud of at the same time. Planning permission for this transformational site was secured in December 2017 for the comprehensive regeneration of Preston Barracks and the University of Brighton’s Moulsecoomb campus.
OUR JOURNEY
Hardscape are working closely with Studio Egret West to create a landscape proposal that references the nearby South Downs and for the delivery of the ‘Furlong’, a linear piece of public space framed by several different buildings. Several unique illustrations that depict the stories of the South Downs social history will be integrated into large stone pavers along the route. These seven natural stone flags, each measuring 600mm x 800mm approximately, are made of Mist granite and each have a South Downs-related illustration inlayed with Kobra granite and metal bronze artwork, some meticulously hand-painted, and produced in-house by IP Surfaces craftsmanship.
Hardscape are also supplying Neland Siena DF clay pavers, Tower sandstone setts and corduroy tactiles, Kellen Breccia H20 Tagenta B, C & D paving with the innovative permeable Drainjoint system used intermittently throughout the scheme.
This transformational project will create a thriving space for local businesses, bringing real benefits to the local community and Brighton as a whole.
